RULES FOR THE ROAD

North Myrtle Beach

NMB is a great beach town full of southern hospitality. We love our town, and we hope you do as well. We enjoy sharing our little piece of paradise with everyone, and we hope that you show us the same respect in return. Please be safe and cautious of those that share the road with you. Here are the rules for the road in NMB following the State of South Carolina restrictions.  You are responsible for the knowing the rules and also the location regulations that we have listed below.

Golf carts:

  •  Are not permitted on primary highways (This includes US 17; Sea Mountain Hwy.; Ocean Blvd. from Sea Mountain Hwy. to 27th Ave. South; and 27th Ave. South from Ocean Blvd. to US 17)
  •  Are not permitted on any road after dark
  •  Are not permitted on any sidewalk

  • Are not permitted on beaches or bike pathways

  • May cross roads with a higher speed limit at intersections only

  • Must be driven on roads with a speed limit of 35mph or less

  • Must remain within 4 miles of residence

  • Drivers must obey all traffic laws while operating a golf cart

  • Drivers must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver’s license

  • Open alcohol on golf carts while in operation is strictly prohibited

  • Cell phone use on golf carts while in operation is strictly prohibited

Parents or guardians allowing an unlicensed child to operate a golf cart are subject to a fine in excess of $200. Golf carts being operated in violation of state law are also subject to being towed at owner/renter's expense.

To ensure safe operation of golf carts, the cart should not carry any more passengers than it is designed for. A golf cart is a vehicle and therefore it is subject to the same laws that govern the operation of an automobile upon a public street. Drivers and passengers should NEVER be under the influence of alcohol or any substances that can cause impairment while golf cart is in operation. All golf carts are registered  by the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles.
